COVID-19 patient Beng Cruz had to wait two days before she was admitted to a Bulacan hospital which was taking care of an increasing number of virus patients.
Cruz’s family immediately drove her to the Bulacan Medical Center in Malolos, Bulacan on August 13 as she was gasping for air.
Even while inside the private vehicle, Cruz was already using an oxygen tank.
However, Cruz had to wait inside the car overnight as the hospital was still full of patients. With this, she could not help but get nervous while waiting inside the car.
“Worried po kasi inip na inip na po ako. Gusto ko na talaga madala sa loob [ng ospital] para magamot na po ako,” she said on Jun Veneracion’s “24 Oras” report.
(I was worried and already tired of waiting. I want to get treated in the hospital.)
Eventually, Cruz was moved to a tent but her anxiety worsened after hearing reports of patients dying and in pain.
Cruz’s daughter, Nica, said they were receiving reports that some patients in ambulances were declared dead on arrival.
Cruz said the patient near her tent also died, which made her more anxious.
Nevertheless, Cruz’s family stayed with her to support her and encourage her while at the tent.
Her anxiety was somehow alleviated when she was finally moved to a hospital room, where she also received the news that she was positive for COVID-19.
While inside the hospital room, Cruz said she prayed to God for her family’s safety.
“Ang hinihiling ko lang po, ‘wag ninyo pabayaan mga anak ko,” she said, citing her prayer to God.
(I am asking Him to take care of my family.)
Fortunately, Cruz said none of her family members got infected with COVID-19.
On August 20, Cruz left the hospital, but she was still under home quarantine to make sure that she was fully recovered. — Consuelo Marquez/DVM, GMA News
