Suspect robbed jeepney passengers to buy medicine for his kid

A man in his 30s said he had to rob jeepney passengers to buy medicine for his kid who is suffering from pneumonia.

In Jonathan Andal’s “Saksi” report, Suspect Mark Anthony Yburan boarded a jeepney traversing Hermosa, Tondo in Manila to steal cellphones and cash from commuters.

After stealing three mobile phones and cash, Yburan took over the jeepney’s steering wheel. However, Yburan could not drive the jeepney properly, causing the vehicle to hit other cars.

The accident caught police’s attention, prompting them to approach the vehicle and find out about Yburan’s crime.

Manila policemen seized his knife and arrested him while the stolen cash and cellphones were returned to the passengers, who are mulling to file complaints against the suspect.

At one point, one of the passengers attacked Yburan while he was being apprehended.

Handcuffed at the police station, Yburan said he really needed the money for his sick child.

“Wala na rin po akong magagawa eh (I  had no choice),” he said.

Meanwhile, Police Major Joseph Himenez of Hermosa police community precinct advised those who might encounter a holdup situation to avoid fighting the suspect as it is too dangerous.

“Bigay na lang kung ano puwedeng maibigay na hinihingi, then kung may pagkakataon na makahingi ng tulong, makasigaw,” he added.
