7 bodies recovered; 2 crew still missing in sunken fishing vessel off Iloilo

Seven bodies have been recovered while two crew members were still missing after the fishing vessel sank off waters between Iloilo province and Cebu.

In Jonathan Andal’s “Saksi” report, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) recovered over the weekend the bodies of six crew members and the captain of fishing vessel St. Peter the Fishermen, which sank between waters off  Bantayan Island, Cebu and Sicogon, Iloilo.

However, seven other crew members are still missing since the incident happened.

PCG Western Visayas Deputy Commander Captain Ludovico Librilla said their divers will pursue underwater and retrieval operations to find the missing crew members.

Prior to this, 22 fishermen who survived the incident were rescued last Sept. 25.

According to the survivors, they encountered strong winds and big waves while conducting fishing operations around 1 a.m. last September 24. The rough weather conditions caused the vessel to tilt and it eventually capsized.  — Consuelo Marquez/BAP, GMA News
