145 more PNP personnel contract COVID-19, bringing total to 40,678

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recorded a total of 40,678 COVID-19 cases in its organization as 145 more personnel tested positive for the disease, as of Friday.

In an update, the PNP said 38,892 have already recovered from the disease, while 1,665 are still active cases.

The death toll due to COVID-19 among PNP personnel remained at 121.

On Thursday, the PNP identified the 120th fatality as a 31-year-old police corporal assigned to a municipal police station in Calabarzon who died on October 6 at the Philippine General Hospital.

The cop, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, tested positive for COVID-19 infection on September 24.

Meanwhile, the 121st fatality was identified as a police executive master sergeant assigned to a police station in Metro Manila.

On October 5, the cop died at the National Kidney Transplant Institute due to COVID -19 and critical pneumonia, according to the PNP.

The cop was diagnosed with stage 5 chronic kidney disease associated with hyperkalemia and hypertension.

On September 28, the cop was tested positive for COVID-19.

PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar extended his condolences to the families of the deceased cops and assured them of assistance from the police organization.—AOL, GMA News
