The Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) recently conducted its first-ever coastal defense exercise with the United States Marine Corps (USMC) in Cagayan province.
In a statement on Friday, the PMC said the coastal defense exercise took place from October 1 to 4.
“Experts in coastal defense from USMC’s 3rd Marine Division based in Okinawa, Japan trained the PMC on the establishment of strategic coastal defense and deployment of shore-based weapons and combat service support assets to control waterways and sea lines of communications,” PMC said.
“This is good start of the training phase in the future execution of the PMC’s archipelagic coastal defense,” it added.
The coastal exercise was part of the bilateral military exercises dubbed “Kaagapay ng mga Mandirigma ng Dagat” (Kamandag), which commenced on September 28.
Last year, the military exercises between the USMC and PMC were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. — Richa Noriega/VBL, GMA News
