The announcement came after the Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday reported 1,766 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, marking the second consecutive day where less than 2,000 cases were reported.

According to the DOH, this brought the nationwide tally to 2,795,642.
