The Philippine National Police (PNP) chief on Wednesday ordered a thorough investigation into the police officer who shot dead a 19-year-old boy in Pampanga last November 20.
PNP Chief Police General Dionardo Carlos said he directed Central Luzon Regional Director Police Brigadier General Matthew Baccay to probe the action of the accused policeman in the incident, Police Corporal Alvin Pastorin, intel officer of Pampanga Police Provincial Office.
Pastorin, who is facing a homicide complaint, is detained at Bacolor Municipal Police Station, Carlos added.
Carlos, likewise, sent his deepest condolences to the family of slain teenager Abelardo Vasquez.
“I would like to express my sincerest condolences to the bereaved family of Mr. Vasquez and assure them that justice will be served following the due process of the law,” Carlos said in a statement.
Pastorin, who according to the victim’s relatives, complained of the noise coming from a group of teenagers. The police officer talked to the victim’s uncle, who he reportedly pushed.
According to the police report, Pastorin confronted the young people because they were not wearing masks.
Initial probe showed that Pastorin went to a store where he talked to the victim with his companions, who were allegedly not wearing face masks.
Pastorin warned Vasquez’s group and asked them to go home which resulted in a heated argument.
A witness said Vasquez’s group threw stones at Pastorin, who was returning to his vehicle.
Further, the witness said the victim’s group allegedly attacked Pastorin, who then drew his gun and fired at Vasquez.
Vasquez was then brought to the hospital where he later died. — Consuelo Marquez/BAP, GMA News
