Isko Moreno vows to curb elitist politics, hits presidential scion in Eleksyon 2022 race

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno underscored on Thursday that he is running for president in the May 2022 national elections because of his love for ordinary people.

Moreno said he wants to change the system of governance in the Philippines, which, according to him, has been ruled by “elitist politics” in the past decades.

“Hindi tayo pinagpala. Hindi katulad ng ibang mga tumatakbo—anak ng presidente, ginto-ginto dito, gintong kutsara ang bibig, kaya hindi maintindihan ang buhay natin,” Moreno said during his visit in Antipolo City.

(We are not blessed. We are not like the other candidates—child of a president, who came from a well-off family, who doesn’t understand the lives of the masses.)

Another candidate running for president, former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., is the son of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos. His running mate, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, is also the child of a president.

“Ang totoong buhay ng tao ay kayo. Ang buhay ng tao ang totoong buhay ng Pilipinas,” Moreno added.

Moreno, who grew up in Tondo, said he wants to bring an inclusive and equitable government which will focus on improving the lives of the masses.

Moreno also urged voters not to be fooled by “false promises” supposedly made by other political candidates.

“Mag-ingat kayo mga kababayan. Ngayon lima-singko ang pangakuhan. Di niyo ba naririnig? Magmumura raw ang bigas, huwag kayo magpapaniwala na magiging P12 uli ang bigas. Hindi totoo ‘yun na ibabalik daw nila yung panahon nila. Hindi totoo ‘yun, nakalipas na ‘yun,” Moreno said.

(You should be careful. Haven’t you heard? They said the price of rice will decrease. Do not be fooled that the price of rice will go down to P12. That’s not true. That’s in the past.)

If he wins in the coming elections, Moreno said, his priorities would include providing the basic needs of the public, including housing, education, health and employment.

He reiterated that he would continue the Build, Build, Build program of the Duterte administration as he plans to construct more public housing, public hospitals, and public school buildings that can create more job opportunities. — BM, GMA News
