MPD chief Dizon files resignation in compliance with Abalos” appeal

Manila Police District (MPD) chief Police Brigadier General Andre Dizon on Friday said he has submitted his courtesy resignation in compliance with the appeal of Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos.

Interviewed on Super Radyo dzBB, Dizon added that some high-ranking officers in MPD have also submitted their resignation.

“Ako pa lang ngayong umaga at may mga nagsumite na rin po na member ng MPD na third level officers (So far only me this morning and some third level officers in MPD also submitted their courtesy resignations),” he said.

Dizon said he responded to Abalos’ appeal as he believed this is a way to cleanse the PNP organization and maintain that not all police officers are involved in illegal drugs.

“Ito po ay malaya nating binubuksan ang aking sa sarili sa imbestigasyon, screening, o assessment (I am freely opening myself to investigation, screening, or assessment),” he said.

Dizon noted that the move is not a victory for illegal drug perpetrators but for the police organization as it will intensify its operation to capture them.

“Hindi po nila ito tagumpay. Tagumpay pa rin po ito ng PNP dahil the more na tutugisin natin sila dahil nadadamay na po ang institusyon namin, ‘yung pamilya dahil sa kagagawan nila,” he said.

(This is not their victory. This is still a victory of the PNP because we will go after them more as our institutions and families are already affected because of them.)

Abalos earlier asked PNP generals and full colonels to submit their courtesy resignation as part of efforts to rid the police organization of officers involved in the illegal drug trade.

A five-member committee will review the resignations of the police officers. Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, a retired police official who once headed the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and served as the deputy chief for operations of the PNP, will be part of the panel.
