Face shields no longer mandatory in Davao City

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio issued a directive on Tuesday that wearing of face shields in the city will be voluntary under certain conditions, or the so-called 3Cs.

Under Executive Order No. 51-A, the 3Cs was lifted from the definition posted by the World Health Organization – crowded places with many people nearby, close contact settings especially where people have close-range conversations, and confined and enclosed spaces with poor ventilation.

Crowded places are areas where there is a mass gathering of individuals, which include but are not limited to swab sites, vaccination sites, evacuation centers, distribution of assistance, and Commission on Elections (Comelec) voters’ registration.

Close contact settings include contact between individuals within six feet of each other for a total of fifteen minutes or more while confined. Enclosed spaces are indoor venues with roof and walls, with no open windows, according to the LGU.

The local government also cited the announcement of President Rodrigo Duterte on Sept. 22, 2021 on the policy of using face shields.

“No more face shields outside… Ang face shield, gamitin mo lang sa 3Cs: closed facility, hospital, basta magkadikit-dikit, crowded room, tapos close-contact. So diyan, applicable pa rin ang face shield,” President Duterte said.

“This order shall take effect immediately. Done this 2nd day of November 2021 in Davao City, Philippines,” the local government added. — Richa Noriega /BAP/KG, GMA News
