Comelec starts accepting local absentee voting applicants for Eleksyon 2022

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will start accepting applications for the local absentee voting (LAV) from those who would not be able to vote on the May 9, 2022 elections.

The duly accomplished LAV forms, which can be downloaded from Comelec’s official website, must be submitted not later than March 7, 2022, the poll body said.

“Only government officials and employees, including members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP), as well as members of the media, media practitioners including their technical and support staff, are allowed by law to avail of LAV,” the Comelec said.

Only applicants who are registered voters and whose registration has not been deactivated are authorized for LAV. They must also present proof that they will be temporarily assigned to do election duties in areas where they are not registered voters.

On the other hand, media practitioners must accomplish and submit the LAV Form 2 while freelance journalists must hand out a certification under oath stating they have election duties from real media organizations.

Online publishers must also do the same to prove that they will distribute election content online. They must also present the URL of their publications or blogs where their and their team’s names could be found.

According to the Comelec, the LAV period for president, vice president, senators, and party-list representatives is from April 27 to 29, 2022 at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  —Giselle Ombay/KBK, GMA News
