A 15-year-old girl was found dead in a forested area in Batangas on Monday evening, the Philippine National Police said on Wednesday.
In a statement, the PNP said victim’s body was found naked with her face covered with her own clothes, and her learning module beside her in Barangay Sta. Maria.
The teenager went to her classmate’s house to work on their school module together on Monday morning, but she failed to come home by night. Her family got worried and looked for her.
According to the Laurel Municipal Police Station, she was raped and strangled to death.
Citing a witness account, the police said the teenager was last seen with a barangay tanod, who was arrested and taken into police custody on Tuesday.
He denied any involvement in the teenager’s death, the police said.
PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar expressed his condolences to the victim’s family as he assured them of justice.
“Bilang magulang ramdam ko ang sakit at pagdadalamhati ng mga naulila ng biktima. Ako ay nakikiramay sa pamilya ng dalagita na malayo pa sana ang mararating sa buhay,” he said.
(As a parent, I know the pain and grief of the victim’s family. I am extending my condolences to the family of the teenager who could have gone far in life).
Eleazar also appealed to the public to coordinate with authorities if they have information on the incident. —LBG, GMA News
