Presidential aspirant and labor leader Leody “Ka Leody” de Guzman on Saturday said his fellow aspirants should reveal their platform on women.
Ka Leody made the remark after Senate President and vice presidential aspirant Vicente Sotto III likened the country to an ICU patient.
(It is true that the Philippines seems to be in the ICU due to crises left and right that caused hunger, violence, and poverty. If my fellow candidates are truly sincere in wanting to uplift the lives of our countrymen, they should reveal their platforms to improve the conditions of the poor, especially the women sector.)
The labor leader said women bear most of the burden amid health, economic and climate crises.
(Women carry the burden of the effect of the worsening crises in the economy, health, and climate from widespread loss of jobs and rising prices of goods, as well as the loss of protection from domestic violence and lack of reproductive health services.)
Ka Leody said crisis response must serve the interest and needs of women, to attain national survival.
He also said women and LGBTQIA members would be part of his Cabinet if he wins the national elections.
(Our national survival hinges on whether the crises faced by our countrymen and most especially women would be addressed or not. We can only provide good service and give more opportunities to the gender minorities if they are directly involved in governance and are prioritized in service. If that is so, I would like to have leaders from the women and LGBTQIA sectors in the Cabinet if I win.)
Ka Leody previously said he is in favor of decriminalization of abortion, same-sex unions, and divorce. —KG, GMA News
