Philippines registers 1,926 new COVID-19 cases; active cases at 28,102

The Department of Health on Sunday reported 1,926 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the Philippines’ total caseload to 2,816,980, as two laboratories failed to submit their data.

The new infections brought the country’s active case count to 28,102, of which, 62.3% are mild, 5.8% are asymptomatic, 10.5% are severe, and 4.5% are in critical condition.

Total recoveries, meanwhile, increased to 2,743,297 after 3,140 more patients defeated the respiratory illness.

The death toll climbed to 45,581 with 309 new fatalities.

The country’s positivity rate was at 3.9%, which is below the World Health Organization’s requirement. The total conducted COVID-19 tests were 40,996.

The DOH also noted that 26 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 245 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The latest data from the DOH also showed that 34% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are utilized, while 21% of the mechanical ventilators are also in use.

In Metro Manila, 31% of the ICU beds are utilized, while 21% of the ventilators are in use. — DVM, GMA News
