At least 1,600 passengers, 800 cargoes stranded amid Typhoon Odette –PCG

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Wednesday reported that a total of 1,606 people, 879 rolling cargoes and 13 vessels and two motor bancas were stranded in different parts of the country as of noon as Severe Tropical Storm Odette intensified into a typhoon.

In its maritime safety advisory, the PCG said stranded people include passengers, drivers, and cargo helpers in Bicol, North Eastern Mindanao, and the Eastern Visayas regions.

Further, 161 vessels and 52 motor bancas took shelter as a precautionary measure against the possible threat of Odette.

The PCG has monitored the following updates amid Typhoon Odette as of 12 noon:

Region: Eastern Visayas

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 was raised over two areas in Mindanao due to Typhoon Odette.

In a press briefing, PAGASA weather specialist Nikos Peñaranda said Typhoon Odette may make landfall in the vicinity of Caraga or Eastern Samar on Thursday afternoon or evening. —Jamil Santos/KG, GMA News
