
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Saturday night that the death toll from the shear line’s effects had increased to 48, while 22 people were still missing.
Of the reported fatalities, 24 were from Region 10, eight from Region 5, four each from Regions 8, 9, and 11, three from Caraga, and one from Mimaropa, the NDRRMC said in its 6 p.m. report.
At least 16 deaths have been confirmed, while 32 more are currently pending validation.
The agency said 12 people were reportedly injured.
It said a total of 136,626 families, or 532,155 people, were affected.
The damaged houses reported in Mimaropa, Regions 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, Caraga, and BARMM increased to 4,511.
The cost of agricultural damage climbed to P243,029,507, while the infrastructure damage amounted to P1,137,605,000 in Mimaropa, Regions 5, 9, 10, 11, and Caraga.
According to the NDRRMC, at least 22 cities and municipalities have been declared to be in a state of calamity.
The agency said P54,654,054 in assistance was provided in Mimaropa, Regions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and Caraga.
The shear line will continue to bring rain and thunderstorms to eastern Luzon while the Northeast Monsoon or Amihan will affect Northern and Central Luzon, PAGASA said Saturday.
In its 4 p.m. weather forecast, the state weather bureau said Quezon will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms brought about by the shear line, with possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to, at times, heavy rains.
Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, and Aurora will have cloudy skies and rains due to the Northeast Monsoon with possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to, at times, heavy rains. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
