49 cops in alleged drug raid cover-up disarmed

The 49 police officers believed to be involved in the alleged cover-up of the drug raid last October 2022 were disarmed and recommended to be charged with administrative and criminal charges.

According to Jun Veneracion’s report on “24 Oras,” former police Drug Enforcement Group Director Brigadier General Narciso Domingo on Friday said he and 48 other policemen were asked to surrender their service firearm.

Para silang easy target,” he said.

According to the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) 990, the disarming of the police officers was under PNP chief Rodolfo Azurin Jr.’s verbal instruction, which also includes filing administrative and criminal charges against Domingo and the other operatives.

“Ako na itong gumawa ng maganda ako pa itong kakasuhan ng patong patong na kaso so talagang medyo mabigat sa kalooban,” Domingo said.

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos said he is confident that the National Police Commission (Napolcom) will thoroughly investigate the case.

Meanwhile, Napolcom’s shortlist of qualified police officials to replace Azurin, who is set to retire on Monday, April 24, is being awaited.

The candidates are usually those in the PNP command group based on seniority. However, the decision is still up to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. His choice may not even be in Napolcom’s list.
