Mabini Mayor to file quash motion after being nabbed for firearms possession

The camp of Mabini, Batangas Mayor Nilo Villanueva is set to file a motion to quash the possession of firearms and explosives cases to be filed against him and his siblings, arguing that these were politically motivated.

As reported on GMA Super Radyo DZBB, the Villanueva camp is now awaiting to be charged by the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) so that they can ask for these cases to be dismissed.

Villanueva and his two brothers — Bayani and Oliver Villanueva — were nabbed in separate operations over the weekend for possession of firearms and explosives.

The police said they recovered a suspected explosive device and a small pouch with a camouflage design in the Mayor’s residence. They also said they recovered a rifle, a grenade, and ammunition from Oliver’s residence, and a rifle and a fragmentation hand grenade from Bayani’s residence.

The siblings, currently held at the PNP-CIDG, believed that the cases and the supposed illegal arrests were politically motivated given the continuous strengthening of tourism in their locality – one of the top scuba diving destinations in the country. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
