The Creative Guild of the Philippines has officially released its 2026 Kidlat Awards Entry Kit, signaling a bold recalibration of how creative excellence is defined, categorized, and recognized in the Philippines.
Anchored on this year’s theme, UNPROMPTED_, the Kidlat Creative Festival 2026 positions itself as a counterpoint to an increasingly automated creative landscape — asserting that the most powerful ideas still stem from human instinct, diskarte, and distinctly Filipino initiative.
“Masarap magka-Cannes. Pero iba pa rin ang meron kang Kidlat,” the Creative Guild of the Philippines said in a statement, underscoring the festival’s continued emphasis on local relevance and cultural nuance alongside global ambition. (It’s thrilling to have a Cannes Lions trophy — but there’s still something different about having a Kidlat Award.)
At the heart of this year’s edition is a rethinking not just of categories, but of the very structure of awards systems. The updated Entry Kit introduces a reworded set of categories designed to better reflect how creativity actually works today — fluid, interdisciplinary, and often resistant to rigid classification.
Entrants can expect new space for ideas and executions that operate outside traditional briefs, as well as a framework that balances timeless craft with modern impact while placing clearer recognition on the people behind the work.
According to 2026 Kidlat Creative Festival Directors Peter Acuña (Hakuhodo BCi) and Arri Veloso (TBWA\SMP), this year’s Kidlat Creative Festival introduces several key updates designed to improve both accessibility and representation.
A new category tagging system replaces the often cumbersome process of uploading entries across multiple classifications, making submissions more intuitive and organized. Supporting this is a newly developed creative taxonomy that simplifies how work is grouped and evaluated.
Judging will also be handled by a significantly expanded jury of 100, broadening perspectives and creating a more inclusive decision-making process.
Entrants now have the option to create their own categories, offering space for unconventional, hybrid, or experimental ideas that may not fit neatly into existing definitions.
Beyond campaign-based recognition, the festival is introducing a set of industry awards that spotlight individual excellence across key roles, including Best FA Artist, Best Art Director, and Best Copywriter, to name a few.
The 2026 edition also leans into evolving creative territories, with increased emphasis on categories such as Best Use of AI — reflecting how the industry continues to navigate and integrate new technologies.
For the Creative Guild of the Philippines, this year’s shift also reaffirms the role of creativity as the industry rapidly evolves.
“We’re looking forward to the prioritization of creativity — something that sometimes dwindles, something we occasionally lose faith in,” Creative Guild of the Philippines 2026 Vice President Tin Sanchez (Publicis Manila) exclusively told adobo Magazine. “Kidlat has always been a celebration of creativity — of human creativity — and how it continues to thrive, now even amplified by AI.”
She adds that while the industry has long championed ideas that push boundaries, the challenge today is making those ideals real in a changing context.
“Times are different now. All the more we need to think out of the box, push boundaries, and rise above the clutter. These may sound like cliches, but the question is — how do we bring them to life today?”
The entry timeline for the Kidlat Awards 2026 is structured across four phases:
The Kidlat Awards continues to position itself as an open platform for the entire creative ecosystem — from network agencies and independent studios to startups, marketers, production partners, and artists across disciplines.
The entry portal officially opens on May 1, with an extended Early Bird window of 10 days. Organizers have also introduced multiple discount schemes to encourage broader participation across the industry.
