President Rodrigo Duterte has been consistent in his position that Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corporation is not a sacred cow, Malacañang said Tuesday.
Acting presidential spokesperson Karlo Nograles made the response in the aftermath of the Office of the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms arresting Pharmally officials Mohit and Twinkle Dargani in Davao City.
The Darganis were removed from a chartered plane bound for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, after the Senate Blue Ribbon panel cited the siblings in contempt over failure to provide the necessary documents being amid the going Senate probe on at least P8 billion worth of government purchases from Pharmally corporation amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mohit is Pharmally’s corporate secretary and treasurer while Twinkle is the firm’s president.
Duterte has railed against the Blue Ribbon investigation and its chair Senator Richard Gordon, saying that Cabinet officials are being kept from their jobs due to having to attend the hearing, and defended former presidential adviser Michael Yang, who has been linked to the controversy.
“The President has been very consistent: whoever wants to file cases in court [against Pharmally], go ahead,” Nograles said.
“Matagal na ‘yan sinasabi ni Pangulo [He has been saying that for the longest time],” Nograles added.
Former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, before quitting his post as presidential mouthpiece, maintained that the Executive department should also take credit over the arrest of the Darganis because airport authorities under the Executive department could have allowed them to escape but did not choose to do so. — BM, GMA News
