Lakas-CMD is looking to include President Rodrigo Duterte in the party’s senatorial slate, party president and House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez said in a statement on Tuesday.
Through his lawyer, Duterte filed on Monday a certificate of candidacy to run for senator in the coming elections. He will run under Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS), substituting a certain Mona Liza Visorde.
“With President Duterte’s filing of candidacy for senator in 2022 election, it will be my honor, as Lakas-CMD President, to nominate his name for inclusion in the list of senatorial candidates to be adopted by the party,” Romualdez said.
“The National Executive Committee of Lakas-CMD is currently formalizing the list of 12 senatorial candidates to be supported by the party in the 2022 elections, and will make formal announcement on this the soonest time possible,” he added.
Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, who is running for president under PDDS, has said Duterte’s senatorial run would prevent any rift among the members of the first family.
“Kung ako lang tatanungin, ayaw ko din na [vice president] ang i-file nya. Ayaw ko magkasakitan pa. Tama na ako na lang ang nasaktan. Mataas respeto ko kay pangulo at sa kanyang pamilya,” Go said.
[If I were to be asked, I don’t want him to run for vice president. I don’t want them to hurt each other. I have huge respect to the president and his family.]
Duterte’s daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, is running for vice president under Lakas-CMD.
She has been endorsed as the vice presidential bet of presidential aspirant and former senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr’s Partido Federal ng Pilipinas. -NB, GMA News
